Update On The Legislative Front

The California Legislature has ended, and we are in the Governor's signing or veto period, until September 30, 2020. CALPASC will conduct its annual New Laws Webinar on October 27, to prepare you for all the law changes taking place on January 1, 2021.
CALPASC has already issued an alert on SB 1159, which has an urgency clause, and will take effect immediately upon the Governor's signature, regarding workers' compensation.

CALPASC will issue other alerts on any bills that have urgency language that the Governor signs. Very few bills have that designation.

One note is regarding AB 685, which has difficult reporting and notice requirements when an employee has tested positive for COVID-19. Some groups are advising employers to comply now, but this bill has no urgency clause, it won't take effect until January 1, 2021. You will learn about this bill on the webinar October 27, in plenty of time to be ready to comply.
