Update on Silica Regulations

CALPASC has been facilitating the Construction Silica coalition, which wants to make changes to the new Silica regulations that came from Federal OSHA, due to take effect June 23, 2017 in California. Labor stakeholders are pushing back on the premise that there is very little data showing evidence of being under the PEL for the exceptions requested, as well as the vacuum tools ideal for inclusion in Table 1 of the new regulation.

The coalition is now tasked with finding manufacturers to either provide data showing compliance by the various tools, or acquire the samples and data asap to support a proposal to change the upcoming regulation. Please contact Bruce Wick via e-mail at or by phone at 909-793-9932 if you have any direct contact with manufacturer's representatives who could help in this endeavor.
