Workers' Compensation Fraud: Addressing the Symptoms and the Disease,

presented by Christopher Dill, ICW Group Insurance Company and Adam Gabler, CDS Insurance Services
Recent waves of criminal cases surrounding medical, legal and ancillary providers, operating within the California Workers’ Compensation system, have highlighted the importance of understanding the red flags associated with both the worker (The Symptom) as well as complex schemes which may recruit the worker to participate (The Disease). This training will provide an overview of the commonalities across these criminal cases and provide suggestions regarding how employers can attempt to mitigate their exposure to these schemes.

About the presenter: Christopher Dill is the Special Investigations Unit Manager at ICW Group Insurance Company, the largest privately held group of insurance companies domiciled in California.  A Fraud Claims Law Specialist designee, he was a recipient of the National Health Care Anti-Fraud Association’s Investigation of the Year Award for his significant contribution to the successful resolution of “Operation Back Lash” – one of the largest workers’ compensation health care bribery schemes ever uncovered in San Diego County, Christopher has participated in over 30 criminal cases surrounding medical and legal providers attempting to defraud the California Workers’ Compensation system.   Total reductions in exposure for ICW Group customers, as a result of these criminal case efforts, is estimated to be in excess of $40M, with untold claims avoided altogether.  Christopher’s approach to insurance fraud investigations includes the merging of data science, software development and project management methodologies, aimed at wholly modernizing the fight against insurance fraud.   Christopher is commonly asked to speak on the topic of Workers’ Compensation fraud by ICW Group policyholders, dedicating time to meet with those employees who are most likely to fall prey to sophisticated schemes aimed at exploiting the benefits which they are rightfully owed.
