|Add Meeting Legislators|
For CALPASC to be successful in politics, it is very important for legislators to hear directly our members who build the homes, run businesses, and employ many people. There are various ways for you to participate in the process and make a difference.
Across the state, chapter members and staff are currently meeting in small groups with State Senators and Assembly Members at their district offices. The purpose is to build important relationships with legislators, and inform them and their staff who we represent and why. This strategy will create opportunities for us to lobby these policy makers to do the right thing for trade contractors and suppliers. Please contact us to get involved.
CALPASC has made a huge impact on the political scene during each of our annual Legislative Days. There is no doubt that the number of CALPASC members who attend this event each year in the Capitol was vital in the passage of Type I indemnity reform in 2005. We cannot let the Sacramento politicians forget about CALPASC. That is why we need as much participation by our members as possible to storm the halls of the Capitol and meet our legislators at our cocktail reception afterwards. CALPASC’s government affairs team provides us with talking points and policy papers prior to our meetings in the Capitol. In case you are unsure about attending Legislative Day, just keep in mind the trial attorneys don’t miss theirs. This year's Legislative Day was held April 9, and followed by one day the hearing in the Assembly Judiciary Committee on our sponsored bill - it passed! We had well over 100 participants and they had 96 appointments with legislators and their staffs. This was a record-breaking number - of both participants and appointments. Plan to be with us in 2009.
