Specialty Contractors United 2017 a Great Success

Members Gather in Sacramento to Participate in Almost 50 Meetings with Legislators and Staff

Dozens of CALPASC members and trade

contractor group representatives descended in Sacramento on May 17th for the annual CALPASC legislative day event now known as Specialty Contractors United. The day began with a tribute to long-time CALPASC Boardmember and PAC supporter Charlie Gardemeyer, who passed away in late 2016.

The tribute was followed by presentations by

Mike Zimmerman who serves asPolitical Director at CA Assembly Republican Caucus as well as Jeff Flint, President and CEO of FSB Core Strategies. Both provided an overview of the state of political affairs at the Capitol and discussed the importance of a robust government affairs program.

Members were then off to meetings with legislators and staff. The main

discussion point this year was the potential no-win situation that passage of AB 450, the immigration bill currently in the Senate (see below for an update) , would put employers in.

Members reported being surprised by how many offices were unaware of the details of this bill and CALPASC members helped educate many of these offices.

Members enjoyed lunch on the lawn of the Capitol and ended the evening with the Legislative Reception.

Members should stay tuned for an upcoming webinar on the Specialty Contractors Coalition--the long term government affairs solution for our industry.
