Bruce Wick attends the WCIRB Classification and Rating Committee on March 14, 2017, in Oakland!

The C & R Committee reviews all proposed changes to classifications, rating plans, etc. At its meeting on March 14, the committee looked at several classification wording changes, including what are called the Standard Exceptions for sales and clerical employees. These are very important to employers, since the rates for sales and clerical are usually much lower than the governing WC classes.

Bruce opposed a sentence being changed to "Notwithstanding any other provisions contained herein, with the exception of a single permanent job reassignment, it is not permissible to divide a single employee's payroll, within a single policy period, between a Standard Exception classification and any other classification."  Bruce advised that we shouldn't write regulations for attorneys, but for regular laypersons. The committee agreed, and the new sentence is "It is not permissible to divide a single employee's payroll, within a single policy period, between a Standard Exception classification and any other classification with the exception of a single permanent job reassignment."
