CALPASC Director of Risk Management led a construction coalition to a meeting held by the WCIRB regarding the reporting and recording of first aid/medical-only claims.
There was much discussion by a variety of stakeholders in the meeting, and the result was a positive one. The WCIRB will now be studying the possibility of removing the first $500 to $1,000 from each reported medical-only claim from employer's experience modification calculations. This would ensure a level playing field for employers who might have all claims paid by their insurer or claims handler, or others who might want to pay for those claims out of pocket.
The outcome is much preferable to some in the meeting who suggested that insurers must track down any payments made by the employer on these claims, and report such to the WCIRB.
