CALPASC Backs Agency Coordination and Stepped-up Efforts
by David Murillo Executive Director California Professional Association of Specialty Contractors
SACRAMENTO – The September 25 press release issued by the California Department of Industrial Relations and Orange County District Attorney’s office (OCDA) demonstrates that cooperation among state and local agencies is a reliable weapon in catching contractors who knowingly commit fraud and coerce employees while cheating them and the state out of dollars that are rightfully theirs.
According to the release, Sourin Babayan of SDB Construction pleaded guilty to “taking and receiving a portion of a worker’s wage on public works projects and six felony counts of dissuading a witness from prosecuting a crime.” The California Professional Association of Specialty Contractors (CALPASC) commends OCDA for their excellent work and joins Labor Commissioner Julie A. Su in notifying fraudulent contractors that “the days are over” when they believe they can break the law, harm and suppress employees and get away with egregious acts. CALPASC will continue working with state and local agencies to ensure violators are exposed and enforcement of punishments is swift.
